2003 Sailing Client Comments

Our friends, the Simpson's 5th annual sailing holiday in Greece. Our season would not be complete without Annie, Steve and Sarah arriving in Athens every August. The Exas Family value your patronage and friendship!
Thalea and Nikos

31st October 2003                        Dear Thalea & Nikos
Just a little note to say thank you once again for providing us with your yacht Maria for the fifth time in as many years. We still hear horror stories from our friends who have chartered yachts from far larger companies than you and have received less than satisfactory service. Even though Maria is a six year old charter vessel she still feels like a private yacht and at the end of every charter we are sad to be leaving her. She certainly did us proud this year. We sailed three hundred nautical miles in the two weeks getting down as far south as Thira and staying there for three days. From
Thira we went to Folegandros and onto Milos . We shall certainly be returning to Milos
again next year if you have a yacht available. Hopefully this will be Maria again.

The Bill Graham Catamaran Sailing Friends are part of the Exas Yachts Family. I would like to add our comments to those submitted to us from Bill and his group......."Captain Bill, it was our sincere pleasure to have met you and your group.  We felt as if we were meeting up with friends after months of email correspondences in preparing your holiday! The cohesiveness, closeness and group preparation of your team is an asset to which you must credit yourselves; which proved to be sustaining under unfortunate personal crisis. While we feel our participation was the least we could have done under such circumstances, we sincerely appreciate your comments and feedback. We think of you as family and fellow team sailors - our lives have been richer for having met every single one of you!  Your comments in whole are included below - Happy Sails and THANK YOU!
Dear Reader,
These testimonials appear as part of most charter company’s web sites and if you read them, most are selected, by the company to show the positive qualities of the services provided.
But what happens when things go wrong?
I hope that Exas Yachts place this letter on their web site as, I now believe that the true measure of a very good charter company is their reaction to problems.
I have been organizing sailing holidays with a group of friends for over ten years, we have sailed in the U.K. France,
Turkey , The Caribbean and Greece
. We have had some good holidays, some great holidays and some bad holidays. This year was one of the latter category but for no fault of Exas Yachts and it was the problems we encountered that turned the holiday bad which underlined the efforts Exas will commit and the quality of their service.

We sailed out of Athens on a bareboat charter aboard S/Y Tethys, a Nautitech 435 catamaran. For the full two weeks of our charter we experienced a very stable low pressure system over the Aegean Sea which created very high winds of between force 5 and 7, with an occasional gale 8. In all my years of sailing, I have never experienced such a static and stable low pressure system. This obviously limited the amount of sailing we were willing to do but, would not on its own, ruin the holiday. We could sail short distances between islands, get into sheltered waters, and we would still enjoy ourselves.

On the middle Saturday of our holiday one of my party complained of feeling unwell, to such a degree that he felt it necessary to seek medical advice. He had, in fact, had a heart attack! The medical services in Paros were excellent and within 1˝ hours he had been flown, by air ambulance, to the next island for further treatment and from there back to Athens for admission to a Cardiac Unit.
Our friend was, by then, 60 miles from us, in a strange hospital, in a strange city, with absolutely no support whatsoever. In ideal conditions it would have taken us 12 hours to get back to Athens . But the conditions were far from ideal and I had to make the decision that it was unsafe for the crew and the boat to attempt to make the passage back to Athens . I telephoned Thalea Lyras of Exas Yachts to inform her of our situation and it was, at this point, that I was exceedingly glad that we had booked with Exas Yachts. Thalea just made the problem go away. Visitors were organized to go and visit our friend, Thalea made numerous telephone calls to get medical information for us and there was constant communications to keep us fully informed.

Obviously, we felt that we needed to get back to Athens so that we could visit our sick friend, but it was Wednesday of the following week before we finally got back to the Marina . Exas Yachts and the yacht owner were on hand to help us moor up and transport had been organized to take us to the hospital in time for visiting, despite a taxi strike! Throughout the remaining 3 days the support continued at the same level with constant communication and organization.
One of the most important features of this level of concern, organization and support was the willingness of Exas Yachts to provide all this and not ask for anything in return.

So, dear reader, whenever you consider who to charter your next boat from ask yourself this question:
If things go wrong and your world falls apart around your ears, who ya gonna call?                     EXAS Yachts

"Very" satisfied. "Our skipper (Giannis) was just as we expected. Giannis was knowledgeable, quiet and we sometimes did not know if he was on the boat. He was great to have on board." Booking procedure - "very smooth and professional. The experience left us feeling comfortable and that we were in great hands. The experience was highly personalized. I am a repeat customer...it's about a feeling of trust; and Exas does not disappoint"  We will sail again with Exas and are thinking about a 2 boat trip in the Aegean next year. I love the quality and condition of the boats through Exas. Always a new boat and in great shape. This one {Bavaria 41} went faster in reverse and was the fastest boat under motor that I have sailed"

T. Wardell and friends sail SY Corfu - Lagoon 380 for 12 great days in the Cyclades. Thank you everyone for your comments and photos - we will see you again in Greece! - Thalea and Nikos

"Hello Thalea - We had a wonderful time sailing in Greece. I think our only regret is that it went by so quickly. 12 days is not enough. The sailing was great, the islands, the people, the food all memorable. I think Folegandros might have been our favorite stop. We would never have had the itinerary without you and your company's help. I would highly recommend you to anyone. Enclosed are a few of many many pictures, all documenting the joy! Thank You Very Much, Terry Wardell."
