Thalea,
Feedback:-

Basically we all had a great time (again) - Thank you to Exas for arranging this trip and thank you to Dream Yacht Charters who provided the yachts.

This was the first time I had chartered a large catamaran and although I remain unconvinced about the benefits of sailing one of these compared to a yacht, I must agree that the 'group' comfort was excellent - A far more spacious lounge and rear deck area than you would find on a 'normal' yacht.  The other obvious advantage was the shallow draught - Idea for visiting that 'Dessert island', not to mention the maneuverability (it will turn round in its own length with ease!).  Downside is trying to beat to windward - even with drop keel boards, this proved difficult.

The yacht was in excellent condition - there was only one minor 'issue' in that the Electronic Plotter did not have a data card fitted, therefore no electronic charts - but there again, in the BVI, this is not really a problem!  Everything else worked fine and the inverter giving domestic power (used by the ladies for their hair-dryers in the main) was a definite boon.
.
The base staff were pleasant and helpful, answering any queries we had.
All in all a great time was had by all (the two 'novices' on board saying they would like to go along on my next trip (Dodecanese in 2013)) - Maybe I'll need to charter 3 yachts!!!

The attached photograph shows how the crew felt about being on this excellent trip!

Thanks again Thalea.

Hi Thalea,
Thanks—yes we had an incredible time. The boat was great, the islands were beautiful, the water wonderful, and we even saw dolphins just a few feet from us on our second day. The kids had an incredible time, as did Sue and I. I couldn’t possibly put it into words how strongly I’d recommend this trip. I have to say, Walter and Aleka had a lot to do with how great the trip was. Walter is a great sailor, and his expertise and knowledge of every great secret location was incredible. The way he had Ethan (our youngest) “help out” was so nice. Likewise, Aleka was absolutely great. She is just so nice, and the food she made was absolutely delicious. We got a bonus—we walked away with a few recipes so we can try to replicate a few of the meals at home—although I know that they won’t be nearly as good as she made them on the boat.

Please send our greatest thanks to both of them. They really made our trip phenomenal.
I’d be happy for you to post our comments—we truly had a wonderful time...................Steve

Thank you for sailing with us in Greece, we look forward to seeing you again! Thalea

We had a great trip. The boat was in good condition and prepared well for us after a delay due to the prior charter not returning.  The staff
at the base was very professional and helpful. We really enjoyed our trip and look forward to returning.

Hi Thalea,
Sorry it’s taken so long to respond – have been swamped since returning. We had a great time, and really loved Hydra and Spetses. I will never forget riding the quads around Spetses, and there’s a tavern in Hydra we were very sad not to try out, as we had only a very limited time at anchor there. I came home with lots of wonderful souvenirs – 2 dresses, a bracelet, 2 scarves and a bag! The stores were fabulous.

Henry’s birthday celebration was at a very nice restaurant in Athens that Jen found on Chowhound. It was an old house, very picturesque. Name escapes me. Our first evening we dined at Dionysus, with a mind-boggling view of the Acropolis.

The boat was very comfortable and we loved Niko our captain. He made us dinner and treated us to lots of ice cream, and we were glad that he put our comfort and safety first instead of taking us to the Cyclades when the seas/wind were so rough. He also kindly showed us a new hotel (ERmione?) that was amazing, and got us invited to several parties.

My only complaints were that a few small things on the boat were broken – mostly the overhead porthole screens I think. I showed them to someone on checkout. Also, our air conditioning vent kept turning itself off.

Would be nice if you could get towels washed halfway through the week; they were pretty dirty by trip end. I would also suggest adding a French Press to the boat’s galley. And somehow, Niko didn’t mention that there was a temple in Aegina while we were swimming there, though had I been better prepared, I would have suggested visiting it.

Our biggest issue, however, was the dumping of holding tanks in the ocean, which seems to be a standard practice in Greece. It’s illegal here – at least in the Hudson, where sewage is pumped from boats. (Re our own holding tank blockage, which we inadvertently caused, as I understood it, I supposed there was no choice but to dump it in the marina. But is there are no service in Greece to remove sewage from boats, I think your company should advocate for it, given that tourism is so important to Greece.)

That said, we can’t wait to go back: the scenery, food, people, history – all are remarkable! (I’m still eating my Pistachios from the Peloponnese.)
Many thanks for all you and the Exas crew did for us. Everyone was very professional, pleasant and efficient.
Susan

Dear Thalea,

We had a very good week, as always. The Saronic Gulf was nicer than we expected, and Giannis did a great job as skipper. We picked up Marielle and Adrian at Hydra, so that went fine as well. Checking in and signing out the boat went smoothly, as well as the check-out when we returned.
Thank you again for your very efficient and good help with this last minute request. It is always a pleasure to work with you.
