How do I choose which yacht is right for me...

The decision to charter a yacht is a personal choice or preference depending
on your budget, your party size and your experience in sailing, among other factors.
All sailing yachts have a set number of cabins hosting from 2 up to the stated amount of passengers. For a party of 6, for example you would choose a
yacht with a minimum of 3 cabins. Other factors to consider is your comfort
level and your budget.  Generally, a yacht of 38' and larger offers more space and head room than a smaller size yacht. You will want to sail in comfort without being cramped in tight quarters. Year build  may also be a significant factor. The newer models are more spacious, better designed with newer engines and performance capabilities.   A rule to remember is, you will pay more for a newer model than an older one, but you will also have a more pleasurable sailing trip.

Depending on your budget and party size, crewed motor yachts and motor
sailors are an excellent choice in cruising the islands in extreme comfort and luxury.

When is the best time to sail in Greece...

This is a very personal choice and will depend on your   preferences.
Our charter season begins in March and ends at the end of October.
You can expect cooler weather, milder winds and less tourism during
the Spring and Fall months.

Summer days in Greece are hot, perfect for sun bathing, swimming
and sailing, while the nights are cooler.  In the sailing world, Greece is well known for it's famous Meltemi winds, often presenting a challenge for experienced sailors. These winds are prevalent during the months of July and August select parts of the Aegean Sea.  Greece has something to offer for everyone at any season.

What do I need to bring with me...

Pack light is the key to enjoying your sailing vacation.   You will find that
you will use half the clothing you pack. Essentials are: light summer clothing
such as shorts, tops, skirts, sun hats or caps, sandals, sneakers or soft soled athletic shoe, bathing suit and warmer clothing for night wear such as sweatshirt, sweater, windbreaker, jeans, light pants.  For cooler months we recommend warmer clothing and waterproof coveralls.  For snorkeling or fishing, bring your own gear or buy in Greece. We recommend soft duffel type luggage as most appropriate. They will fit in the cabin compartments and be easier to secure in cases of windy weather.  Large traditional suitcases are cumbersome and awkward to maneuver in tight spaces.  Consider bringing additional foldable baggage  to pack items you purchase on the islands you visit.

Yacht sailing is a "soft adventure",  be prepared for calm seas as well as
windy conditions.  If any lean towards sea sickness, over the counter medications or prescriptions may be handy. Ensure, you have an adequate supply of prescribed medications as you may not be able to refill medical prescriptions in Greece.

Electrical outlets are not available on most sailing yachts for traditional
grooming aids such as curling irons, hair dryers or electric shavers. The
exception to this, are some larger sailing yachts and of course motor sailers
and motor yachts.
Offshore electrical power may be available at some ports.

Each island you sail will have markets for food shopping and other  essentials. Most islands have ATM machines and the main ports will  have banks.   There are numerous waterfront cafes, restaurants, fish
markets and more to ensure your provision of food supplies. You must have a valid passport/visa and your charter agreement forms to embark on your charter.  We recommend that you carry personal
documents with you whenever you leave the yacht.

Useful tips when chartering a sailing yacht

Luggage
Yachts have a limited space for storing large bulk items such as hard sided suitcases. So please pack your vacation items in a soft sided suitcase, it should also be collapsible.

Packing
Remember that storage space in your cabin is limited. In most cases you have a hanging locker and shelf space. In some cabins there are draws as well as lockers. Dress codes in the islands are very casual. Men, shorts and polo shirts are the preferred evening dress, Ladies light summer dresses or similar to the men.

During the day you will be mostly in swimming or light cool clothes, that can be rinsed out as you take a deck shower, so multiple out fits are not really required.

Electricity
Yachts all run their main systems on 12 volt dc current. They also have 220 volt auxiliary systems that work off a Generator or hard wired from a dock facility. Hairdryers and other regular 220 volt items can be run on the yacht when it is not sailing and at anchor or in port only.

Laundry
Doing laundry on the yacht is not really possible as we have a limited supply of water, and no real area one can dry clothes. On some islands there are laundry services, but do not depend on them always being open.

Shoes/ Footwear
While sailing you will be required to wear shoes. These need to have non marking soles, and can be deck sneakers, boat shoes, non marking running sneakers etc... You will also need a pair of land or shore shoes, these can be any thing you like. However, you will be required to remove shoes at the end of the gang way before returning on board.

Bathrooms/Heads/Showers
All cabins have there own private heads, (bathrooms). Each with a marine toilet, that is manually operated. Hot and cold running water with basin etc. Storage space for personal bathroom items, and room to take an in-cabin shower.
Showers in cabins, where they are private, can be hot and stuffy. Also the shower head is a miser type water controller.( you do not get high pressure, so that you use less water). On deck is a conventional high pressure shower that is always available and much more pleasant.

Drinking and Alcohol
The sun in
Greece is very strong, and on the water its effects are multiplied many times.
Drinking during the day is a must and required, only not large quantities of alcohol. Water is the preferred substance, at least one large (1.5 liters) bottle during the day. De-hydration rates are 5 times greater on the water than on land.
Drinking beer or wine during the day de-hydrates you quicker and makes you sleepy and sluggish. It can also help induce sea sickness. Sweet sodas make you thirstier, and with small children the sugar can effect safety and behavior.

Weather
The summer is almost continual sunshine, however the different areas of the
Aegean have vastly different wind patterns and weather influences. If you are a family ask about sailing in the Saronic Gulfs and southern Peloponese islands, or alternatively up north in the Northern Sporades Islands. In these areas the winds are light and moderate with short distances between islands.
If you have sailing experience and understand about sailing in high winds (30+ knots) and want to experience the thrill of large seas (2+meters) then ask about sailing in the
Cyclades or along the Turkish coast in the Dodecanese Islands
